Aspen is one of our favorite places on earth in the summer (and not so bad in the winter either).  It is a great vacation destination for all types of people. Whether you are a family looking for a cool summer getaway and some fishing or an avid angler looking to fly fish hard for several days or weeks, Aspen has something for you.  The Roaring Fork River and Frying Pan River are Two world class rivers near Aspen and are full of great fly fishing.  The rivers are home to trophy Rainbow Trout and brown trout.  You can also catch some nice brook trout and whitefish.  The best way to experience is to hire one of the many great Aspen fly fishing guides to take you to the best spots on these rivers and help you improve your technique.

Aspen is fairly easy to get to now with its own airport that is served by United and frontier airlines.  You can also fly into Denver as the drive is only about 2 hours.  The temperature in the summer is typically highs in the upper 70’s with lows in the 40’s at night.  Ideally for some good fishing in the day and relaxing at night.

Aspen has other cool things to do while you are not fishing. It has a great downtown with summer festivals, restaurants, and great hotels.  Escape to the mountains of Aspen this summer and you will not be disappointed.

Angler Misses Out on $900k Because of $15 Fishing License

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

BlueMarlin How long will it take for Andy Thomossan to get over what happened last week?  According to   JDNews.com, Mr.  Thomossan caught a record 882 lb Blue Marlin off the coast of North Carolina in the 52nd annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Fishing Tournament.  What should have been the best day off his life, however, quickly became one of the most painful. A crew member of The Citation, the winning boat, apparently did not have the required NC Fishing License.  This license only costs $15 per year. Officials of the tournament disqualified the catch resulting in loss of the record as well as the financial prize.

Thomossan expressed his frustration to a local reporter, “We didn’t do anything wrong. But one of our people did. He failed to get a fishing license, but we didn’t know it. He told us he had it. He didn’t. So you take a man for his word, you know? I can’t do anything.”

Wow, you can’t help but to feel terrible for this guy.  $900k taken away because of a for-hire crew member who lied to him.  That hurts.  I’ve heard that the officials are reviewing the ordeal again. Lets hope they give Mr. Thomossan a break.

Unlikely Partners Join Forces to Help Monitor Gulf Coast Oil Spill

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

New Orleans, LA – A popular fishing website, a local New Orleans fishing charter business, and students from MIT collaborated this weekend to help document the impact of the recent BP oil spill. It is an example of how volunteers are joining together to do their part in the wake of the disastrous spill. Jeffery Warren,  a 26-year-old graduate student at MIT, has been trying to monitor the effects of the oil slick using makeshift weather balloons and cameras. With his setup,  Jeffery can take photos with up to 1000 times better resolution than satellites that are used by authorities monitoring the spill. The idea is that this data can then be used as evidence for future litigation and other legal matters. Jeffery needed to get out in the waters of the Gulf to capture useful photos but does not own a boat. That is when he contacted FishingGuidesWorld.com,  a leading website that connects people with the top fishing guides in local areas. FishingGuidesWorld was able to quickly communicate with all of its guides in the Gulf Coast to see if they’d be willing to use one of their boats to take Jeffery and his team out on the water. One guide in the network, James Smith, immediately responded and offered to help.  Mr. Smith is a licensed fishing guide and owner of Uptown Angler,  a New Orleans-based fishing outfitter.  Mr. Smith offered to take the MIT team out in his fishing boat and ran the waters from Venice to the Chandeleur Islands. They were able to get a close view of the Oil Slick’s progress and capture various photos of the area.  The team from MIT hopes to continue to capture photos of this slick and help document the oil spill at a detail level. This is one of many ways in which local citizens are banding together to help in the aftermath of the oil spill.

Fishing Guides & the Oil Spill

Friday, May 7th, 2010

We are committed to cover the recent oil spill in the gulf and trying to explore the impact on recreational fishing.  Fishing Charters in Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, and Texas are watching the developments closely to understand how their industry will be affected.

Oil Spill

What is clear right now is that no one really knows what areas will be hit and how bad it will be. It is being reported that the Chandeleur Islands in Louisiana are now a major area of concern. Its hard to know if the media has an accurate grip on whats happening or if there is panic setting in. We will keep you posted.

Networking with Hawaii Fishing Charters

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

We were down in Hawaii promoting the site…..Maybe Fishing Guides World should be headquartered in Maui. We discovered some great fishing charters that know the local waters well. Maui is definitely a great spot for offshore fishing.

Texas Fishing Trip

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Well, its that time of year again…Yes, the holidays and the season of buying gifts. If your loved one is an outdoorsman or woman, why not give them the gift of a guided fishing trip? In Texas there are great fishing charters along the coastal cities to choose from. If you are in the Houston area, check into Galveston Bay fishing guides. They are some great bay fishing spots for tracking down redfish and trout. There are also plenty of solid Deep Sea fishing guides in Freeport, which is not too far from the Houston area. If you are struggling with gift ideas, a guided trip is what your fisherman really wants!

Florida Keys Fishing

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

If you are looking to go fishing in Florida,  I recommend looking at charters in the Keys.  The keys is known for great inshore and reef fishing. The best time to catch Tarpon or Permit is March through July.  Deep sea fishing is also really good in the keys.  Mahi-Mahi is best from April through July while Swordfish is best May through August. If you are looking to fish in the winter, the best time to catch grouper is November through March.

One of our favorite Florida fishing guides is down on Marathon Key which is pretty much in the middle keys. The charter name is Main Attraction Charters.  They can tailor a trip according to your preferences and also recommend the best trip for the time of year. Check them out the next time your are down there.
